Is boxing a good workout? 6 reasons to try it

Short answer: yes. Boxing is one of the most all-round workouts there is. In a single class you train fitness, strength, coordination and focus – and it’s fun. Here are six reasons to give it a go.
1. Your fitness goes up
Boxing is trained in rounds: intense periods with short breaks in between. Your heart rate goes up and down, a lot like interval training. If you want a really sweaty class, Punch & Burn is the one – we combine circuit training, pads and the heavy bag.
2. Your whole body gets stronger
A good punch doesn’t come from the arm. The power starts in your feet, travels through your hips and core and out through your hand. That’s why boxing trains your whole body. In Power & Rotation we work on exactly that: shifting your weight to put more power into your punches.
3. Better coordination and balance
Hands, feet and eyes have to work together. That trains your coordination, and the footwork improves your balance. In Footwork we drill the movements so you become light on your feet.
4. Your brain gets a workout too
Combinations on the pads make you listen, remember and react. It’s hard to think about work while you’re throwing a 2-3-hook. Many people find boxing a great way to clear their head.
5. You actually learn a skill
Boxing is a technical sport. You get a little better every class, and you notice it. That’s a big difference from just “doing a workout” – you have something to improve at. Start with Fundamentals, where you learn the basics in pairs on the pads.
6. You train together with others
In many of our classes we pair up two by two. That makes it easier to push yourself – and easier to come back next week.
Do I have to spar?
No. Sparring has its own class, Drills & Sparring. In the classes above you work on technique, pads, the bag and fitness.
