For beginners
5 common mistakes beginners make in boxing

Everyone has been new at some point. As a boxing beginner it’s easy to make a few classic mistakes – but don’t worry, we’ve seen them all! Here are five common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
1. Punching too hard – too soon
It’s easy to think boxing is about hitting as hard as you can. But technique always comes before power. Once you learn to punch correctly, the power comes naturally. Focus on timing, angle and balance first – the pop comes later! Want to understand where power comes from? That’s exactly what we train in Power & Rotation.
2. Forgetting your feet
Many beginners only think about their hands – but footwork is everything. Without a stable base you can’t punch properly, defend yourself or move efficiently. Listen to your coach: your feet drive your whole game. In our Footwork class we train exactly this.
3. Holding your breath
When you’re nervous or focused, it’s easy to forget… to breathe! Many people hold their breath when they punch, which makes them tired and tense fast. Practise breathing out with every punch. It gives you rhythm, power and endurance.
4. Skipping the basics
It can be tempting to jump straight into advanced combinations. But without the basics – guard, balance and straight punches – it’s hard to build further. The best boxers train the basics every week. Do you? Start with Fundamentals.
5. Comparing yourself to others
Everyone improves at their own pace. Someone may have trained for months – and you’re starting now. Get inspired, but focus on your journey. The most important thing is that you show up, put in the work and have fun. The rest will follow.
